The pilot project of access control system in the buses of Tabriz, Iran | March 30, 2015

Tabriz is a big city with a population of 1.4 million people, in which is located a bus-making factory — Akia, a leading manufacturer of buses in Iran. Currently, all Akia vehicles are equipped with contactless MIFARE® card validators. However, the operation of the system revealed high percentage of unpaid transport fare for there is no effective control of fare payment. LOT Group suggested a solution of this problem to Akia's management: to install transport turnstiles at the bus entrances.

As the resolution, a pilot project was launched to study the efficiency of controlled access to the bus. In addition, the project was intended to confirm smooth operation in harsh conditions of Iran: high temperatures, a high level of dust and high dense of passenger flow.

The installed equipment has been proven its operation on one of the most difficult Tabriz routes and showed excellent results. Customer’s management was fully satisfied with the tests results and with significant increase of revenue in particular, by eliminating ticketless travel. Currently, the negotiations are held on the installation of LOT Group’s turnstiles in every Tabriz bus, and in the long term, it is planned to equip all Akia buses with our hardware.

LOT Group Installs New Fare Collection System in Kharkov Subway | May 15, 2012

LOT Group has completed implementing a new AFC solution in one of Europe's leading subway systems.

LOT Group has completed implementing a new AFC system in the Kharkov Subway – one of Eastern Europe's most powerful subway systems that consists of 39 stations, and has an annual passenger load in excess of 239.2 million people (2012).

In the delivered solution the tokens have been phased out by bar-coded tickets, thus significantly reducing the costs of the support system. It is planned that Kharkov Subway will be able to save up to USD 2.5 million per year due to the new system's implementation.

The new system is expected to cover its cost within a year's time, as the cost of a bar-coded ticket is less than 1 cent, while the support of the token-based payment system costs around USD 200 000 per month.

Importantly the implemented system is secure and reliable – it's impossible to fake tickets. The system reads the bar code and removes it from the database, thus making fare evasion completely impossible.
